Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Foundation

The Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Foundation (KCMBF) is the charitable arm of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA), a  5,000 voluntary member association of area lawyers and judges, the largest and oldest bar association in the Kansas City area. The KCMBF's mission is to serve the community by creating, supporting or funding public service or educational programs which promote the administration of justice, delivery of legal services, professional development or respect for the law. KCMBF has worked toward the improvement of both the legal community and the community at large in Kansas City since 1979.

Historically, KCMBF served as a grant maker to local nonprofit organizations with an annual grant application process. Funding for the grants was raised throughout the year by KCMBF through various fundraising activities including the annual Liberty & Justice Gala. In 2012, KCMBF undertook its first strategic planning project to determine the most effective way to make a greater impact among the areas of need in the greater Kansas City community. As a result, KCMBF's Board of Directors approved a signature umbrella charitable program format, Legal Connection. KCMBF's Legal Connection provides access to legal and other support services to a community of citizens currently under-served by bringing together various organizations and individuals throughout the community through interdisciplinary collaboration and education initiating meaningful conversation and creating effective solutions.

The Legal Connection umbrella currently focuses on two specific areas of need: advocacy for the victims of domestic violence with the Domestic Violence and Children Interdisciplinary Conference and legal assistance for veterans, active duty military and their families through the Military Matters program.
